MAP-IT Information day on Information Society Technologies

Conference on "Knowledge MAPPING of IT competencies in the Mediterranean region and dialogue fostering"
Beirut, July 27, 2007 – The Professional Computer Association (PCA), the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, the European Commission's Information Society and the Union of Arab ICT Associations (IJMA3) are organizing a one day conference on "Information Society Technologies (IST)". The conference will be held on 27th of July 2007, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Marwan Hamadi, Minister of Telecommunication.
The opening ceremony will take place at 09:30 hours on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Hamra.
MAP-IT Information Day is a knowledge mapping of IT competencies in the Mediterranean region and dialogue foster targeting ICT stakeholders. Its key results at the national level would be: a) Mapping of competencies: identify key technology areas and ICT players b) Position Papers: country needs and proposals for cooperation c) Awareness raising and training d) Launch dialogue among Mediterranean players.
This event comes as a part of a regional cooperation between UNESCO and European Commission to map the competencies in the Mediterranean IST arena and makes organisations located in MED countries (Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia) concretely benefit from the funding opportunities provided by the European Union. Hence, the purpose of this exercise is to expose as many organisations as possible to collaboration opportunities with Europe as well as to the services provided free of charge by the MAP-IT! project (information, training)
The conference will tackle various topics that include the identification of IT Excellence in the Mediterranean region, the 7th Framework Program FP7, Lebanon EU experience and the EU Mediterranean region experience.
