Beirut, Lebanon, 19 April 2007 – Since the inauguration of the first Professional Computer Association of Lebanon Information and Communication Technology Academy (PICTA) in September 2006, seven other centers have opened in Lebanon, all as part of a larger humanitarian effort called ‘Partnership for Lebanon.’ Despite many challenges along the way, the project co-funded by the Professional Computer Association (PCA), Intel Corporation, Mercy Corps, IESC, Cisco, Microsoft, Computer Associates, Universal Knowledge Solutions, Booz Allen Hamilton and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP-ICTDAR), has today marked the graduation ceremony for 400 trainees.

PICTA Training sessions: Facts & Figures

Center for Excellence in Bourj el Barajneh
In order to improve the technical and business skills for the national community and create a real chance for a better life in this area, the Center for Excellence was initiated in Bourj El Barajneh. The CFE is divided into various parts: PICTA center, Incubator center, conference room and administrative offices. First, the PICTA center was made to train the national community on using computer and ICT techniques in order to increase computer literacy and create an environment of communication between national community members. In addition, the Incubator center will hold the micro /beginner business entrepreneurs and afford for them any needed help and support preparing them to compete in the business market. In the future phases, the CFE will help in providing job vacancies for the national community members by holding some of their exciting projects. Beirut, 12 March, 2007 - Under the auspices of Ms. Najat Rushdie, Project Manager at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP-ICTDAR), the Professional Computer Association of Lebanon (PCA) organized the opening ceremony of the PCA ICT Academy (PICTA), in the Qana Al-Jalil center in Qana, at 4:00 PM, March 9, 2007. The launching of the Fifth PICTA Center in Qana was a result of the ongoing support and collaboration of the PICTA initiative partners, which include: United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Mercy Corps, International Executive Service Corps (IESC) funded by USAID, Intel, CISCO, Microsoft, Computer Associates (CA), Universal Knowledge Solutions (UKS), Booz Allen Hamilton, Union of Arab ICT Association (Ijma3), UNESCO, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Investment Development Authority of Lebanon (IDAL), Ministry of Economy and Trade, Ministry of Telecom, Office of the Minister of State for Administrative Development (OMSAR), American Lebanese Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), Oracle, and Women in IT (WIT).
